About the Academy
The Citizens Academy is part of an initiative to bring the Corcoran Police Department and the Corcoran community closer together by fostering transparency, trust, and mutual understanding through education. By encouraging open communication and information sharing, we hope to enhance public awareness of how public safety staff members perform their duties to best serve their community. The academy is free for participants and features weekly presentations of different aspects of the Corcoran Police Department. The weekly classes will include lectures, class participation, and hands-on demonstrations, to highlight our different staff, building, vehicles, technology and equipment. The program will begin on Wednesday, September 2, and applications will be due by Wednesday, August 19. The academy has a limited class size. To ensure consideration for the program, please submit your online application by the deadline. Late applications may be considered if space is available.
Class Schedule
Participants will attend seven weekly sessions in the Fall of 2026. Sessions are typically held 6:30 p.m.–9 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Eligibility Requirements
Academy applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have connection to the City of Corcoran by meeting a requirement to live, worship, work, volunteer, participate in a community group, or own a business in the city. Applicants must pass a background check. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant. The program will also require participants to attend a ride-along with an officer during the academy.
