The MN DNR has placed a Burn Ban. There is no open burning until further notice.
No burn permits will be issued until the burn ban has been lifted by the MN DNR. Only variance burns are allowed.
At this time 3'x3' recreational fires are allowed.
When the MN DNR has lifted the burn ban, the City of Corcoran Police Department will have a new process for burn permits.
Residents planning to obtain a burn permit should review the updated application and approval procedures below:
- Obtain a burn permit application online - the application will be located here once the burn ban is lifted.
- Applications may also be picked up at the Corcoran Police Department during business hours:
• Monday – Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Return the completed application to the Corcoran Police Department:
• In person during business hours
• Or by email using the address listed on the application
- Payment must be received before a permit will be issued:
• Accepted forms of payment: check, cash, or credit card
• Payments may be made in person, by mail, or by phone
- Applications will be reviewed and either approved or denied.
- A burn permit is not valid until an approved permit number has been issued and applied to the permit.
- Pricing will remain the same
•$10 for one month
•$50 for six months
Please plan ahead when applying for burn permits. Permits will not be issued during non-business hours, evenings, or weekends. Applications require a 24–48 hour approval timeframe.
Burn permits are required to burn anything larger than a 3' x 3' recreational fire. Burn permits are not necessary if the ground is snow-covered: By definition, in Minnesota Statute 88.16 sub. 2 (1): "Snow-covered" means that the ground has a continuous unbroken cover of snow, to a depth of three inches or more, surrounding the immediate area of the fire, sufficient to keep the fire from spreading.
Please check the City website for MN DNR issued burn restrictions. Restrictions are usually placed on during the months of April and May of each year and extend until vegetative materials have greened up. This is determined by the MN DNR.
